20. Celestial Sun and Moon Catchall Dishes
Bring the magic of the cosmos down to earth with a gorgeous celestial catchall dish, perfect for holding your daily jewelry, keys, or loose change. This project combines sculpting, carving, and painting into one incredibly rewarding craft. Roll out a slab of clay and cut out a large circle. Place the circle inside a shallow bowl to give it a gentle, curved dish shape. Next, sculpt a beautiful, sleeping crescent moon and a radiant sun from thin pieces of clay, and attach them to the center of the dish using the score-and-slip method.
Use a fine needle tool to carve delicate stars, constellations, and sunbeams radiating outward from the central figures. Once the dish is completely dry, paint the background in a deep, glossy midnight blue or rich indigo. Paint the sun, moon, and stars in shimmering metallic gold and silver leaf. For an extra touch of magic, paint a scattering of tiny white stars across the background to mimic the Milky Way. Seal the entire dish with a thick coat of high-gloss glaze, giving it a polished, celestial finish that sparkles beautifully in the light.
