15. Geometric Wall Pocket Vases
For a clean, contemporary look, craft a series of geometric wall pocket vases to display single stems of dried pampas grass, eucalyptus, or delicate paper flowers. These vases are defined by their sharp angles, clean facets, and minimalist appeal. Begin by rolling out a flat sheet of clay to a uniform thickness. Cut out a shield, a diamond, or an elongated triangle shape to serve as the back plate. Next, cut out a coordinating geometric shape that will form the front pocket, ensuring it has side tabs that can fold back and attach to the back plate, creating a hollow interior pocket.
Carefully assemble the pieces, using a ruler to ensure your lines remain straight and your angles sharp. Score and slip all joining seams, smoothing them from the inside out. Use a straw to punch a clean hanging hole at the top of the back plate. While drying, place a small piece of folded cardboard inside the pocket to keep it from collapsing. Once fully cured, sand the geometric edges until they are razor-sharp and smooth. Paint the pockets in a matte color-blocked design, using painter’s tape to create crisp, clean lines between contrasting colors like charcoal grey and soft peach.
