5. Thrifted Mirror Faux-Arch Transformation
Architectural arches add structural soft curves, visual height, and high-end elegance to modern interiors, but custom woodwork or structural wall cutouts can be prohibitively expensive. You can achieve this coveted architectural aesthetic using a standard rectangular thrift store mirror and a bit of strategically applied wall paint.
Procure a large rectangular mirror with a thin profile or minimal frame from a local thrift shop or yard sale. Securely mount the mirror on your designated feature wall. Using painter’s tape, mark a line extending vertically from both top corners of the frame, then use a pencil attached to a string to trace a clean, perfect semi-circle arch directly above the mirror. Paint the arched shape on the wall behind and above the mirror using a contrasting accent paint color. The illusion expands the room visually, refracts ambient light, and creates the look of a custom arched mirror feature at a fraction of retail prices.
