11. Painted Geometric Arch Headboard

Traditional headboards can feel bulky and take up valuable square footage in small bedrooms, while purchasing stylish upholstered designs can quickly strain a budget. A painted geometric arch headboard utilizes color-block painting techniques to create a grounding focal feature directly on the wall behind your mattress without losing an inch of floor space.

Measure the width of your mattress and add two to four inches on either side to determine the base line of your arch. Use painter’s tape to mark vertical side lines extending upward from the baseboard to roughly four or five feet high. To trace the top curved arc, insert a thumb tack at the exact horizontal midpoint between the two vertical lines, tie a pencil to a piece of string equal to half your total width, and swing the pencil smoothly from one side to the other. Fill in the outline with a deep, rich accent paint—such as terracotta, sage green, or warm ochre—using a small angle brush for the curved edges and a roller for the interior. The finished painted arch frames your bed, establishing a cozy retreat atmosphere.
