10. Dip-Dye Linen Curtains

10

Plain, mass-produced white curtains are practical for privacy, but they often lack the personality, rich color transitions, and custom aesthetic required to anchor a room visually. Applying a dip-dye gradient technique to basic cotton or linen drapes infuses your living space with painterly, ombre color that draws the eye upward and grounds the space down below.

Submerge the bottom half of lightweight white linen curtain panels into a large tub filled with fabric dye mixed with hot water and salt. Allow the bottom third to soak for 30 minutes to absorb deep, saturated pigment. Slowly pull the fabric upward out of the dye bath in ten-minute intervals to create a seamless, gradual transition from rich, concentrated color at the hem to soft, faded tones near the midpoint, leaving the top half pristine white. Rinse thoroughly in cold water until it runs clear, wash on a delicate cycle, and hang while slightly damp to let natural gravity smooth out any remaining wrinkles.
