17. Clay Pinch Pot Monsters
Working with air-dry clay is a fantastic sensory experience that allows kids to explore three-dimensional art. Creating pinch pots is a foundational pottery technique that is incredibly easy for children to master, and converting these pots into monster faces is a wonderful way to encourage creative sculpting.
Give each child a ball of air-dry clay about the size of a plum. Have them press their thumb into the center of the ball and pinch the walls outward to create a simple bowl or cup shape. Turn the cup on its side to create a wide, gaping monster mouth. Kids can then pinch the clay to form teeth, horns, scales, or multiple eyes, sticking them onto the main body. Once the clay dries completely (usually within 24 to 48 hours), they can paint their monsters with acrylic paints and seal them for a glossy finish.
