The Haunted Mirror Portrait

6

Give your hallway mirror a terrifying supernatural upgrade that will startle anyone looking at their reflection. Find a cheap, ornate picture frame and paint it with textured metallic spray paint to look like antique tarnished gold or pewter. Print a creepy, vintage black-and-white portrait of a Victorian figure or a ghostly face on transparency paper. Replace the glass of the frame with a piece of two-way mirror film applied to a sheet of acrylic.

Place the transparency portrait directly behind the two-way mirror, and mount a small, battery-operated LED light strip behind the portrait. Connect the light to a motion sensor or a simple switch. When the light is off, the frame looks like an ordinary, dusty mirror. But when the light turns on, the reflective surface becomes transparent, revealing the ghastly, glowing face staring back from within the glass. It is a classic theme-park-quality illusion you can easily build at home.
