Industrial Concrete Ribbed Vases
Texture is the secret ingredient that transforms simple decor objects into high-end artistic statements. Industrial concrete ribbed vases capture this principle perfectly, utilizing architectural fluting and tactile grooves to play with light and shadow in a way that flat surfaces simply cannot achieve. These vases bring a heavy, sculptural quality to your coffee table, mantelpiece, or bookshelf, serving as powerful standalone art pieces even when they are not displaying dried floral arrangements or moody pampas grass stems.
The trick to achieving those sleek, perfectly spaced ribs lies in finding creative textured molds. Flexible textured silicone baking mats, fluted plastic placemats, or corrugated plastic sheet material can be rolled up and inserted inside a cylindrical container like a wide PVC pipe or a cardboard postal tube. Alternatively, textured silicone drink sleeves or ridged plastic bottles make fantastic ready-to-use molds. Because concrete is inherently porous and dry concrete will absorb water meant for fresh flowers, you must embed a glass or plastic cylinder—such as a tall glass bud vase or an emptied glass bottle—directly into the center of your concrete pour to act as a permanent, waterproof inner lining.
Prepare your concrete mixture, opting for a fine cement blend without large gravel bits, as smaller particles will capture the sharp details of the ribbed pattern much more effectively. Pour the mixture around the central glass container inside your lined mold, tapping the exterior continuously to force the wet slurry deep into every ridge of the textured lining. Let the vase cure completely for two full days before carefully peeling away the textured liner. The result is a breathtaking, column-like vase that echoes classical architecture through a distinctly modern, industrial lens.
