Mummified Whiskey Bottles
Bring the ancient sands of Egypt to your Halloween display with mummified whiskey bottles. Square or rectangular whiskey bottles are ideal for this project because their flat surfaces allow the wrapping materials to lay beautifully and show off distinct angles. To start, paint the entire bottle in a dark brown or black shade. This ensures that any gaps in your wrapping reveal a dark, shadowy void rather than shiny glass, adding depth to the mummy’s appearance.
Next, take standard medical gauze, cheesecloth, or torn strips of old white cotton fabric. Dip the fabric into a bowl of warm black tea or diluted brown acrylic paint to give it an aged, dirty, tomb-worn color. Once dry, wrap the strips tightly around the bottle, securing them occasionally with hot glue. Be sure to leave a small gap near the upper middle section of the bottle. In this gap, glue a pair of glowing plastic googly eyes or realistic taxidermy eyes. Wrap the gauze slightly over the edges of the eyes so they appear to be peering out from deep within the bandages.
