14. Skull-Imprinted Concrete Coasters

14

If your boyfriend’s aesthetic leans toward industrial, modern, or minimalist, a set of handmade concrete coasters with a subtle skull imprint is the ultimate DIY gift. Concrete is an incredibly fun medium to work with, resulting in durable, heavy, and professional-looking home accessories that look like they belong in a high-end design store.

To make these, you will need a silicone coaster mold (square or circular) and some fine-grit concrete mix. Before pouring the concrete, place a small, flat plastic skull emblem or stamp face-up at the bottom of the mold. Mix your concrete with water according to the instructions, and pour it into the mold over the stamp. Tap the sides of the mold gently to release any trapped air bubbles, which ensures a smooth finish. Let the concrete cure completely for 24 to 48 hours before demolding. Once removed, peel away the plastic stamp to reveal a beautifully recessed skull imprint in the center of the coaster. Sand any rough edges, apply a concrete sealer to protect against moisture stains, and glue cork padding to the bottom of each coaster to protect his furniture.
