5. Terrazzo Composite Resin Tray
Terrazzo has made a triumphant return to the forefront of modern interior design, known for its playful, speckle-patterned aesthetic. You can recreate this high-end look at home using two-part eco-resin or jesmonite, combined with colorful broken chips. The process begins by casting thin sheets of colored resin in various complementary shades—such as mustard yellow, dusty rose, forest green, and white. Once these sheets cure, snap and crush them into irregular, confetti-like fragments of varying sizes.
Next, mix a fresh batch of clear or neutral-toned base resin and stir the colorful crushed chips directly into the mixture. Pour the dense, speckled compound into a flexible silicone tray mold, tapping the sides gently to release any trapped air bubbles. After curing completely, the magic happens during the sanding phase: sand down the top surface using wet sandpapers ranging from 80-grit to 2000-grit to expose the flat faces of the embedded chips. The result is a smooth, satin-finish tray that looks like custom-molded stone, ideal for adding a modern pop of color to a minimal coffee table.
