13. Decoupage Antique Botanical Print Tray
Decoupage allows you to transfer intricate illustrations and vintage paper art directly onto functional home items with professional-looking results. Find a classic wooden tray with an inset base and source high-resolution printouts of antique botanical sketches, vintage celestial star maps, or historic bird illustrations on heavy matte paper. Tea-stain the paper slightly around the edges to give it an authentic aged parchment look before trimming it precisely to fit the tray interior.
Apply a generous, even coat of decoupage medium (like Mod Podge) onto the wooden base, then carefully lay the paper down, smoothing out air bubbles with a flat rubber brayer or plastic scraper starting from the center outward. Once the paper is secure, layer multiple thin coats of clear varnish over the surface, waiting for each layer to dry completely. A final thick coat of clear pouring epoxy over the entire interior locks the paper beneath a durable, glass-like shield that protects the vintage paper art from water rings and scratches forever.
