19. High-Mounted Cabinet Valet Rods
Valet rods are ingenious, retractable metal posts that slide out horizontally from cabinet frames or side walls when needed and push back flush when inactive. Installing a telescoping valet rod on the outer frame of your upper laundry room cabinets provides a temporary, high-level holding station for steaming, outfit planning, or hanging dry-cleaned items.
When you pull the valet rod out, it provides a sturdy hook for hanging five to ten garments on hangers. This is ideal when using a handheld garment steamer to de-wrinkle dress shirts, as it holds the clothes suspended in mid-air at an ergonomic working height. Once your steaming or outfit assembly is complete, remove the hangers and slide the valet rod back into its housing, maintaining a totally flush, unencumbered profile.
