14. Repurposed Vintage Ladder as a Textile Display Tower
Blankets, throws, and vintage quilts often end up hidden away in closets or cluttering up sofa arms. A vintage wooden orchard ladder or a simple DIY blanket ladder offers a vertical, space-efficient solution for displaying beautiful textiles, introducing rustic warmth and functional art to an empty wall corner. The verticality of the ladder draws the eye upward, making it an ideal accent piece for rooms with limited floor space.
To make your own blanket ladder, purchase two long pine or oak boards and four rounded wood dowels from a home improvement store. Drill circular recesses along the interior sides of the side boards, insert the dowels using wood glue, and secure them with small finish nails. Sand the entire structure smooth, applying a clear matte wax or a rich dark stain to highlight the natural grain. Lean the finished ladder gently against a wall at a slight angle, folding heavy wool blankets, waffle-weave cotton throws, and vintage textiles over the rungs. The layered fabrics add instant physical softness, color, and tactile warmth to the room.
